Electives

As part of this degree, it was required that we undertook several electives that are within the Arts and Design sector.

CERAMICS

I loved getting creative while doing this ceramics elective. I found it very satisfying and therapeutic.

We were required to make a set of 6 wheel thrown cuts and hand-built vessels. I explored and experimented with textural forms and patterns and have incorporated what home is for me in an abstract way.

GLASS BLOWING

Glass Blowing was an awesome experience. It was difficult to learn such a complex art in such a short period of time but so fun and satisfying.

I chose to create a set of vases that explores a theme of texture. After I wanted my vases to challenge the idea of practicality.
I am mainly inspired by my chosen field of study and have a passion for all things design.  I wanted to bring this passion into my glass work through my love of textural surfaces and practicality.
The hot glass process also influenced my work as I came across this type of texture by accident and absolutely loved it. I love the unusual forms and texture in my pieces and have loved experimenting with textural forms and trying new techniques.

Some cold working textural techniques that I enjoyed exploring and getting creative with.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Images were taken as part of a two-week photography intensive that teaches how to shoot in manual mode and edit / enhance raw files in lightroom and photoshop.

This set of 5 images play homage to Martin Olsen's work. Who takes images of  “Whatever catches my eye”. All his images are close-ups of old, rusty, colourful objects.

I love the textural elements in these images and find them quite interesting.

As part of the Assessment, we were given a different theme each day that we had to take a photograph of.

1 photo a day for 10 days, 10 different themes.  I have showcased a few of my favourites.

I loved noticing the things I often missed & capturing them in a creative way.

HUMAN FORM, BODIES

STUDIO, INDOORS & STILLS
